What We Do: Structural Engineering and Structural CAD Drafting Services

GravityWorks offers a full lifecycle of structural engineering services. In the design phase, the company develops complete structural plans, including CAD drafting services, for new and existing residences and commercial buildings.  For existing structures, including adaptive re-use of histroic buildings and houses, GravityWorks can provide a complete assessment of the building, with a detailed report on the current condition and rehabilitation needs, and then design temporary shoring if necessary.  In the construction phase, GravityWorks assists builders with plan modifications, special inspections, construction observations, plan clarifications, and shop drawing reviews. Why We're Different: Architectural Esthetics and Value Engineering

Architectural esthetics.  Respecting open space.  Creating the right detail.  Using beams that fit the design scheme.  These considerations add substantial, top-line value to a project, far in excess of the design fees.  With premier architects, GravityWorks has built a reputation for its sensitivity to architectural design.

Adaptive Re-Use of Historic Structures. The founder of GravityWorks has completed over 50 projects involving historic structures.  She knows the historic materials and construction methods and the historic preservation guidelines.

Value engineering.  Over design can add significant and unnecessary cost to a project (and impair esthetic considerations).  Oversized footings and beams.  Too many shear walls.  Unnecessary posts.  These shortcuts are often the result of skipping steps to save structural design time.  The GravityWorks team takes the time to think through your design challenges and to use only what is necessary.  This approach requires more pages of calculations on each project but often results in significant cost savings for builders and owners.
